As is the case with most global chain hotels in Rome they tend to be away from the city centre, Holiday Inn is no exception. If you do select such a location, do factor in the time and/or expense of getting to the main sights in the centre of Rome.
The exception to the rule in the case of Intercontinental properties is the Hotel Indigo Rome St George in the heart of the city. If money is no object this hotel is a splendid option for your visit to Rome.
About InterContinental Hotels in Rome
For those with one eye on the wallet, the Holiday Inn Express Rome East is well worth a look. Aimed at motorists, this hotel has decent rates, but by car you can be in the centre of Rome in just fifteen minutes. There's free parking too. Public transport is also perfectly possible, with a free shuttle that will take you to the nearest Metro.
Of the rest of the InterContinental Hotels, all but the Crowne Plaza St Peter's are close by Rome's orbital motorway. If you have a car these are worth considering, offering good quality accommodation at a much lower cost than the city centre, driving to a local station/metro for the commute to the sights. Another advantage of being outside is the prospect of resort style facilities with pools, a great contrast to the hurly burly of the city.
The Holiday Inns and Crowne Plaza have shuttle services that go to the city centre. The Crowne Plaza St Peter's is closer to the centre than the Holiday Inn choices, a couple of miles west of the Vatican in a residential area with limited public transport.

Crowne Plaza St Peter's Hotel
Away from the centre of Rome with a cheap and private shuttle providing connection to the historic centre. The spa and fitness centre are free for all guests as well as two tennis courts and outdoor swimming pool, (summer only). The restaurant is open all day long. During summer meals are served on the terrace. Free Wi-Fi and parking on-site.
