Popular accommodation along Naples waterfront but central to historic city
The waterfront hotel strip of Naples is the most elegant part of the city and for most visitors to Naples would be the most agreeable part of Naples to stay.
It is also where you find most of the top hotels in Naples. As a consequence hotels along the waterfront tend to be relatively expensive.
The coastal waterfront of Naples goes many kilometres, but most of the hotels used by visitors are in the Molo Beverello and Santa Lucia districts or a few hundred metres just inland.
The part of the port that most visitors are interested in is around the cruise/ferry terminal at Molo Beverello.
About staying in Naples cruise/ferry port
Across the road from the terminal the land rises steeply up to the Royal Palace and business area where you find some of the most popular hotels.
The historic centre with its tight streets and cathedral is 10-15 minutes' walk north-east and beyond that is the main rail station, Central Station.
The airport bus conveniently comes down to the ferry/cruise terminal.
Going west from Molo Beverello there is a wide, elegant promenade following the coast to Santa Lucia. Its main visitor landmark is Ovo Castle, behind which are a number of large 4-star type hotels.
For the mainstream visitor, if you can find suitable accommodation at a price you are comfortable with this is a very pleasant area to stay in Naples.
It is of course convenient for those boarding or disembarking a cruise ship and the airport bus link.
The main train station, Central Station where many people may arrive, is a good distance away however.
If you are just staying overnight, one of the hotels around Central Station will save the awkward transfer with luggage and almost certainly be a lot cheaper.
The hotels around Central Station tend to have a bias towards budget and 3-star hotels while along the waterfront the bias is towards four star full service hotels.
